Transportation to & from Amplify

Airport transportation is available to all families, even if their campers aren’t flying in. Amplify Sleep Away Camp takes place in Ojai, California—approximately 90 miles northwest of Los Angeles. Parents have the option of driving their campers to camp or using our airport (LAX) shuttle.

If you’d like to take advantage of our convenient LAX shuttle, please contact us directly before you book your flight(s). When possible, this also allows us to organize youth flying out of the same region (i.e., so they can fly with their friends). After you’ve personally confirmed your flight + shuttle times with us, please fill out all travel information for your camper in the registration portal.

Driving to Amplify is also always a great option! We’re located at Besant Hill School, 8585 N Ojai Rd, Ojai, CA 93023. Arrival time is 1–2 PM PT.

The completed travel forms must be returned to us as soon as possible (for most, that means as soon as you book the flight!) and no later than the week before your camper’s session. If the form is not returned within this timeframe, we may not be able to provide transportation. Our shuttle services to/from camp are also available for our families who would like to meet us at LAX.

Important!

TO BE CONSIDERED FOR OUR SHUTTLE…

Flights to LAX must be scheduled to arrive by no later than 12 PM on the first Sunday of your camper’s session. Amplify shuttles are staggered to depart LAX between 10 AM and 1 PM. Amplify staff will meet your camper at their baggage claim area, unless an “unaccompanied minor” designation has been arranged with the airline.

Flights leaving LAX must depart at 2 PM or later on the last Saturday of your camper’s session. Staff will accompany campers until 4 PM.

Pricing

Amplify offers service to and from LAX on check-in and check-out days. The price for transportation to/from LAX is $140 one-way ($280 round-trip) and is booked here. Payment is collected at the time of booking.

FAQs

We live in the Los Angeles area, do you offer a pick up/drop off option in LA?

Depending on available space per session on our shuttle, it is possible to accommodate this. Please email us if you live between LA and Ventura, and would like to sign up for our LAX shuttle.

My child is flying as an unaccompanied minor—do you pick them up and take them directly to the gate?

If you’ve completed all the necessary paperwork through the airline for your child to be an “unaccompanied minor”, then yes, we can pick them up from and take them to their gate.

Guardians are responsible for making reservations and ticket purchases for all transportation arrangements. Please contact the airlines regarding their unaccompanied minor regulations. Any and all fees for unaccompanied minor services must be paid by the parent/guardian at the time of booking. Kids flying in as an unaccompanied minor require extra paperwork through the airline, which must be submitted to transportation@girlsrocksb.org ASAP.

Who qualifies as an unaccompanied minor?

For most airlines, 12–14 years old is generally considered an unaccompanied minor, though this varies from airline to airline. Please contact the airline regarding their unaccompanied minor regulations and any needed paperwork.

If my child is not flying as an unaccompanied minor where will they be picked up?

We will meet our campers at their baggage claim for their flight and pick them up there. Prior to their campers boarding their flight, parents/guardians will be provided with our staff’s contact info so they can always check in on pick-up status, etc. Once we have picked up your camper, we will text you to let you know.

I see you are a technology-free camp, can my child bring a cell phone with them for when they are traveling?

Yes. We understand the need to be able to communicate with your child during travel. Once we pick them up we will hold onto their phone until sending them back to the airport for their departure. We make sure all phones are fully charged and ready for their flight home.

My child has never flown alone before, do you ever “buddy up” campers to arrange travel together for kids who are flying in from the same city?

Yes. We love when we have several kids flying in from the same area and we can arrange to get them all on the same flight, if possible. Please contact us ASAP if your camper will be flying in so we can try to coordinate our campers’ flights and shuttle windows accordingly.

Will there always be camp staff on the LAX transport shuttle?

Yes. There will always be Amplify staff accompanying the campers for arrival and departure to and from camp.

What if I can’t bring my camper during the specified time slot or have to pick them up early?

Please contact us ASAP to arrange special pickup/dropoff times, keeping in mind that your camper may miss out on some key first day activities, or the closing showcase performance.

*For families with kids flying in from out of state/country, please contact Amplify directly and we will help navigate the process of picking up the kids at the airport and transporting them back to camp. All travel arrangements must be finalized and communicated with us ASAP.

CHANGES OR CANCELLATIONS

We must receive notification by email to transportation@girlsrocksb.org of any changes, missed flights, cancellations, or delays. If we are not notified of any itinerary changes at least 48 hours in advance, you will be charged the full transportation fees.
