COUNSELOR

Morning (B), evening (C), and night (A) counselors are spread across five roles: 1) Arts, Crafts and Games electives, 2) Music electives, 3) Transportation, 4) Lifeguard, and 5) Residential. All counselors must have some experience with youth instruction, leadership, mentorship, communication, goal setting, and conflict/resolution. They must also be able to successfully manage and engage with large groups of youth in grades 3-12, typically divided by age.


SCHEDULE

All counselors live, work and sleep on campus 6 days each week, with one 24-hour period per week free from camp responsibilities, while still upholding expectations. For A and C counselors, the 24 hour period begins at 7am following your shift. For B counselors, the 24 hour period begins after your shift. On a typical day, B counselor shifts are from 7-2:30, C counselor shifts are from 2-9:30, and A counselor shifts are from 4-midnight. Lifeguard shifts are typically 12:30-8. Schedules adjust for arrival, trip, field day, showcase, pool party and departure days.

FOR ALL COUNSELORS

  • Camp move in/out and set up/take down at the start and end of the season

  • Act as a positive role model while on and off the clock, campus, or off-campus housing

  • Collaborate with other instructors and counselors to provide campers with excellent resources in education, life skills development, and having fun

  • Be prepared and on time, and help campers be prepared and on time

  • Adherence to safety protocols and utilize common sense

  • Work with Health and Wellness team to better serve campers with special needs

  • Involve campers in daily care of dorm rooms and common areas

  • Assist in covering for other staff who are unable to work

  • Attend staff meetings

  • Supervise campers as needed on off campus trips

  • Ensure campers follow the code of conduct, and connect campers with heath and wellness team, the AM or PM lead, or program director as needed

  • Complete paperwork in a timely and diligent fashion consistent with camp standards

  • Follow all protocols outlined in the staff handbook and during pre camp orientation including emergency procedures and drills

FOR SPECIFIC ROLES

  • Transportation counselors operate a daily 67-mile round-trip shuttle each morning and evening, weekend shuttles to and from LAX, and provide transportation for some off campus trips, as well as fulfill counselor duties including support for electives, workshops, meals and other activities

  • Lifeguard counselors follow all water safety standards and are present any time swimming is scheduled, including several pool parties and beach days as well as fulfill other counselor duties including support for electives, workshops, meals and other activities

  • Counselors may be scheduled to teach private lessons such as skateboarding, DJing, creative writing, etc

  • Staff who are also musicians, DJs, vocalists, etc may be asked to perform or DJ during their shift


REQUIREMENTS

FOR ALL COUNSELORS

  • Some experience with youth instruction, leadership, mentorship, communication, goal setting, conflict/resolution

  • Ability to successfully manage and engage with large groups of youth in grades 3-12 typically divided by age

FOR SPECIFIC ROLES

  • Current lifeguard certification a must for lifeguard counselors (Amplify can help pay for certification)

  • Transportation counselors must be 25+ years of age with a clean driving record and be able to safely operate a 10 passenger vehicle. Class B license is desired but not required

  • Electives counselors design, submit outlines for, and lead up to 4 unique mission based activities or workshops each week while keeping track of elective materials


PAY + BENEFITS

  • The pay range is $3,600–6,300, depending on experience, for 9 weeks (6 days prior to session 1 for onsite move-in, team training) of full-time summer employment

  • International staff pay range determined on an individual basis to account for J1-Visa and additional fees

  • Room and board is 100% covered

  • Travel cost to and from campus is not included and is the responsibility of each staff member
