trips + outdoor activities (toa) coordinator

Trips + Outdoor Activities (TOA) Coordinators are responsible for all aspects of day and overnight excursions during each session of sleepaway camp, and assist with onsite outdoor activities and as needed in counselor roles. This includes planning and leading overnight hike-in camping trips, all camp beach days, and other outings. One TOA coordinator and/or counselor may be assigned to documenting trips. This role is directly supervised by the AM and PM lead, the program director and the executive director.


SCHEDULE

At least 3 overnight trips, and 3 day trips every 14 days. Day and overnight excursions each get up to 2 or 5 hours of prep and clean up time respectively. When not on excursions, TOA coordinator fulfills an onsite counselor role. They are in the rotation for on-call overnight shifts to tend to any camp needs that may occur.


ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES/DAILY TASKS

  • Work with program director to outline each trip's logistics from start to finish, including a complete itinerary for all travel, activities, tickets, reservations and meals, complete list of participants' names with emergency contact info, medications, and any other pertinent information

  • Safely leading up to 80 youth and staff on off campus excursion at locations such as the beach, an amusement park, hiking trails, campgrounds, on public and private transportation, etc for the duration of the trip

  • Incorporating music and photography on trips whenever possible

  • Making sure all reservations are accurate and handling updates to number of tickets and reservations as needed

  • Designing and leading mission based curriculum such as team building exercises, life skills development, and bonding activities

  • Getting to and from transportation, activities, campgrounds etc on time

  • Adherence to safety protocols and utilize common sense

  • Staying within budget for each trip and following all financial protocols

  • Cleaning and care of all camping and day trip equipment after trips

  • Fulfilling on site counselor role when not on a trip


REQUIREMENTS

  • 25+ years of age

  • Class C driver's license with a clean driving record

  • Previous experience with youth leadership, mentorship, communication, goal setting, and general ability to successfully manage large groups of youth in grades 3-12

  • Experience with all aspects of tent camping including planning, packing/unpacking, shopping within budget, preparing and cleaning up after meals, checking into campgrounds, safely building and managing a fire, using a camp stove, carrying and setting up large tents, taking down camp and following leave no trace practices

  • Ability to participate as needed in professionally led group activities such as zip lining, kayaking, and snorkeling


PAY + BENEFITS

  • The pay range is $5,400–6,300, depending on experience, for 9 weeks (6 days prior to session 1 for onsite move-in, team training) of full-time summer employment

  • Room and board is 100% covered

  • Travel cost to and from campus is not included and is the responsibility of each staff member
